K - they/them

Based on Dharawal Country but working solely online, K is a white, neuroqueer, visibly able-bodied, Secular Psychologist. They are passionate about empowering people in their sexual and mental health journey.

K holds a Bachelor of Psychology and an Advanced Master of Science in Medicine (HIV, STIs and Sexual Health). They are currently completing a PhD with the University of Sydney. Their research focuses on the experiences of our beautiful transgender community, and the impacts of community, resilience, cisgenderism and cissexism. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2492-7500

K’s clinical focus is on queer affirming care. Having worked in the field of gender affirming care for several years, they have worked as a Psychologist for organizations like The Gender Centre and Headspace.

K is an educator, working as a Lecturer and Unit Coordinator in the Faculty of Medicine and Health's Sexual and Reproductive Health program. K teaches Sex, Gender & Sexuality.

K is a co-founder of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Gender Alliance, alongside Dr Megan Thomas and Dr Alison Rutherford and provides education as part of the supports provided by ISGA to the local community.

They are a passionate advocate for human rights and equity amongst all people. K believes that gender expansiveness is a part of human diversity and fights against the pathologisation of the trans+ community.

K's language around pleasure, empowerment and sex has been shaped through mentors and friendships that are grounded in queer theory and intersectional feminism. Their work with gender and sexual minority communities is a massive driver both professionally and personally, where you will find them protesting at rallies or to politicians to ensure their voice is contributing to the causes they believe in.

K acknowledges in their day to day practice the role that terroristic colonisation plays, and the ongoing discrimination and disadvantages our First Nations people are faced with. They commit to fighting against the colonial, racist system that impacts Dharawal and other First Nations people across so-called-Australia.

K’s work is intersectional. Their work is queer/trans+/kink/sex work/NM & Polyam inclusive, as well as affirming of neurodivergent folk.

K works in a few different modalities including Psychosexual Therapy,  Schema Therapy, Narrative Therapy, EMDR and DBT. K often takes an eclectic approach and will discuss what models may best fit your needs or goals in therapy.

K provides education, empowerment, assessment and treatment on a vast range of psychological and sexual wellbeing topics and is a member of Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists (ASSERT NSW), World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH), Australian Professional Association of Transgender Health (AUSPATH), and Society of Australian Sexologists (SAS)

This a dive into the history of American White Feminism and the role that leaders of the movement had in erasing black voices, and their counterfeminism movements.

Would definitely recommend adding this to your reading list if you're exploring how intersectional your activism is.
